U16’s Boys – FNSW Thunder v FNSW Lightning
A dominant performance from the FNSW Thunder had them run out 4-1 winners over the FNSW Lightning.
Riley Nicholl was at the top of his game early in the Lightning goal, making some fine saves to keep the Thunder at bay.
The Thunder had the lead though in the 13th minute as Peter Politis crossed in from the left, only for the Lightning’s Cooper Halfpenny to hit the ball into his own net.
Politis was in the thick of it again, this time finding himself on the scoresheet, finishing well to make it 2-0.
In the second half, Nicholas Bakopolous should’ve halved the deficit after some fine skill but he sent his volley wide.
It should’ve been 3-0 for the Thunder seven minutes into the second period but substitute keeper Carlos Barriga made three consecutive saves.
There was nothing Barriga could do a minute later though as Rocco Melino’s deft lob beat the Lightning keeper.
It was 4-0 with five minutes to go as Peter Grozos skipped through the defence behind placing the ball into the back of the net.
Milos Anic scored a consolation for the Lightning with a well taken 10m penalty inside the final two minutes.
