In the third all New South Wales Grand Final of the day it was Football NSW Country North taking on Football NSW Metro Thunder in the U17 Girls decider.
The first half started out even, with chances at either end but neither of the two sides could really take control of the game and often lacked the finishing touch.
Brooke Kennedy broke through the defence late in the half for Country North, but her attempted shot went wide.
The best chance of the half came through Hannah Jones, but the Country North captain’s shot flashed just wide of the post.
Metro Lightning had a great chance late in the half with a free-kick, but it was dealt with easily as the two sides headed into the break with scores even at nil-all.
Metro lightning had a great chance to take lead early in the second half as a shot from Chloe Gordon had her effort pushed onto the post by Sophie Emery, and cleared in a goalmouth scramble.
Emery again stood tall for Country North, keeping out a stinging effort from Eliza Pereria, keeping the scores locked at nil-all. The country north keeper continued her strong form throughout the half, denying Metro Thunder and multiple occasions.
Following a timeout, Kennedy was through on goal but was denied by the strong hands of Ashley Purcell, the keeper forcing the ball out for a corner.
As had been the case throughout the game, neither side could score, and they went into extra time with the scores still locked at nil-all.
It was the same in extra time as neither side could open the scoring, due to quality goalkeeping at both ends of the court. With scores still locked, the sides headed into a penalty shootout.
In the shootout, both sides had two from three kicks scored and went to sudden death. After some stunning saves from both keepers, it was Country North that would seal victory with Brooke Kennedy scoring from the spot.
Monique Holder from Metro Thunder was awarded MVP.
