Football SA defeated Capital Football Gold in a dominant 13-1 win in the opening match of the Open AWD Mixed competition.

Football SA started the half looking dominant with multiple early possessions and early looks on goal. It was Jordy Henderson Ross who opened up the scoring for SA with an early goal in the second minute.

Despite SA’s dominance, Capital Football Gold responded with a goal by Luc Launder to even the score.

SA retook the lead through Samuel Mills, with the forward breaking through CF’s defence and blasting it past the keeper. His teammate Liam Bekric soon followed with an easy tap into the goal after three SA players harassed and confused CF’s goalkeeper.

SA took a 4-1 lead after Eric Melton cruised past the defence for a powerful open shot on goal. Melton soon saw another opportunity to score but missed the net by a hairs length.

Despite their dominance, SA weren’t able to convert many of their chances with the halftime ending 4-1. SA continued their dominance in the second half with a quick goal by Melton, making up for his previous misses.

Not long after, SA scored again through Anthony Katianos-nemes, slotting the ball under the keeper for his first goal of the match. Melton continued his scoring tear with a hattrick after a nice through ball from teammate Jamin Wilson-Eglinton.

Wilson-Eglinton soon took matters into his own hands by scoring an easy goal after CF’s keeper fell to the ground, giving SA an 8-1 lead. Henderson Ross went on his own tear scoring two back-to-back goals, matching his teammate Melton for a hattrick of his own.

SA continued to dominate the match, as Mills rounded out the match with a quickfire double. After a dominant 13-1 win, SA look to be strong title contenders.
