Football NSW Metro Lightning secured their third win at the 2020 FFA National Futsal Championships, defeating FQ Metro 3-2 in their round three clash.

A goal in the dying minutes ensured the result for the NSW side, as the Lightning joined their fellow NSW Metro side at the top of the table.

There was drama from the first minute, as FQ’s goalkeeper Connor Robinson acrobatically kept the ball out of his net after his original save nearly bounced back into the net.

In a moment of madness, Bailey Spokes was given his marching orders for a blatant foul in the opening two minutes. Spokes pulled back the Metro striker who was clear on goal, leaving the referee with no choice.

Tyson Black scored for the resulting free-kick to give NSW Metro the lead in the third minute.

The Lightning’s quickness on the counter was a constant worry for FQ, as Jacob Smith received a yellow card for pulling back Rocco Mellino as Metro was launching a counter-attack.

The first 20 minutes was end to end futsal, as team countered each other’s attack but both keepers pulled off diving saves.

Just 90 seconds into the second half, Lightning had doubled their lead thanks to a fine finish from Mellino.

FQ pegged one back in the 35th minute through Benjamin Bordin and less than a minute the later the match was back level. Lightning was caught on the counter and Connor Demerutis buried his chance into the bottom corner.

But the drama wasn’t over yet, as Lightning struck in the last minute to steal the points. A great team move from Lightning found Samuel Tzanakes unmarked, who tapped the ball in to claim the heart-stopping win.
