Football NSW Metro Thunder has defeated their state rivals Football NSW Country 5-0 at AIS Training Halls on Tuesday afternoon.

A brace from Bryce Harry and goals from Yanni Plataniotis, Thomas Quilligan and Rhys Buik were the difference between the two sides in a match that looked destined to have plenty of goals.

NSW Country looked like they had opened the scoring in the first 10 minutes but their free-kick somehow did not cross the line. The original strike had beaten the keeper but after several deflections, the ball trickled out for a corner.

Metro Thunder’s Emmanuel Tzanakes had the best chance to open the scoring but he missed an open net from point-blank range after a great team move. The stalemate didn’t last for long as Yanni Plataniotis made sure his shot didn’t miss the back of the net.

Six minutes after the break, Country’s Max Peters earned himself a yellow after a late challenge. In a matter of minutes, Metro’s lead was four after a goal from Thomas Quilligan and a double from Bryce Harry ensured the result.

As Country pushed men forward in an attempt to get back in the game, they were left vulnerable at the back as Metro put the game to bed with five minutes to go.

Rhys Buick put his own rebound into the net after his original shot was saved by Riley Nicholl to secure the 5-0 win.
