Football NSW Metro Lightning have extended their lead at the top of the ladder of Pool A, as the U13s Boys side claimed a 3-1 win over Football NSW Country

It was an end to end start to the top of the table clash as both sides traded blows early on. With plenty of counter-attacking football being played, it would be metro lightning to take the lead.

With a swift counter-attacking move, the ball was played to Evan Ilijanic who was able to slot the ball past the keeper to open the scoring.

Minutes later and Metro Lightning would be in again, doubling their lead. This time it was Sebastian Mileto that beat the keeper with a well hit shot.

As was the theme of the first half, Country continued to launch their own counter-attacks but were unable to break down a solid defensive structure.

Country had a great chance to equalize with Billy Wilson through unleashing a shot towards goal but an excellent save from Dean Plessas saw the shot rebound onto the crossbar and then recovered by the keeper.

After an entertaining half of counter attacking play from both sides, Metro Lightning went into the break with a two-goal buffer.

Metro lightning came out firing in the second half, immediately putting country under pressure. That pressure paid dividends early as a cross unfortunately deflected off Jake Fattore and into the back of the net.

The end to end play continued throughout the half and country were able to pull one back through Joshua Surian. With the ball coming in from the left flank, the Metro lightning keeper came out to claim the ball but Surian was first to it, poking the ball home into the bottom corner.

Country had a chance to reduce the deficit to one, but a solid pair of hands from Alex Rocchetto saw his side keep their lead at two goals.

Not happy with only a two-goal lead, Metro Lightning continued to press only to be kept out by some strong saves from Aaron Hage.

Despite their best efforts, Country couldn’t break down a well-drilled Metro Lightning side. The final score 3-1 to Metro.
