U19’s Mens – FNSW Lightning v FNSW Thunder

A fantastic come from behind victory saw the FNSW Thunder come away with a 3-2 victory over the FNSW Lighting.

The Lightning went into the break two-goals to the good but succumbed to a 3-2 defeat.

The Lightning exploded from the blocks and had the lead after only two minutes as Declan Cotter found the back of the net.

With a little under eight minutes to go Jayden Smileski doubled the Lightning’s advantage after some fine work down the left by Andrew Holder.

Michael Borg should’ve halved the deficit for the Thunder but Jack Vandervelde made a fantastic save.

Vandervelde was proving too much for the Thunder, thwarting various attacks as the half came to a close.

Alexander Purves then went close for the Lightning in the second half, his shot skimming the top of the bar.

Vandervelde was finally beaten five minutes into the second half by a powerful Thomas Quilligan strike, reducing the deficit to 2-1.

With 10 minutes to go the Thunder had their equaliser. Quilligan combined with Emmanuel Tzanakes as the latter tapped the ball home after a series of wall passes between the two.

With 2:30 left on the clock, the turnaround was complete as Tzanakes grabbed his second for a 3-2 lead.
