A star was born at this year’s FFA National Futsal Championships as a well-known surname graced the finals at the courts of Homebush’s State Sports Centre.

George Antonis, younger brother of Socceroo and Sydney FC star Terry, was one of the stand out players in what was a fantastic and memorable week of futsal action.

The young gun was one of the stand-out players in the Under 12’s category as his NSW Thunder side cruised to a 5-2 victory over Victoria Metro to clinch the National Championship.

Assisting in his side becoming National Champions, Antonis finished up high on the goal scorer’s charts notching an amazing 16 goals throughout the tournament.

Currently playing outdoor football with PS4 NPL NSW Men’s 1 outfit Sydney United 58 FC, the youngster stated the importance futsal has played in his continual development as a footballer.

“I really love futsal, I am very passionate about this game and I know that this game has helped improve my skills on the outdoor pitch.

“I was really excited about this week and I am happy that our team took out the title.

“It is something I will always remember.”

As soon as the final whistle sounded, George shot off to Mascot to board a plane bound for Melbourne with his father Peter, to watch his older brother don the green and gold jersey of Australia in their first official AFC Asian Cup match against Kuwait.

“I am wishing him all the best and I will be cheering him on from the stands with dad during this tournament”

The cheeky midfielder did however state that he hopes to one day go one better than older brother Terry.

“I would love to represent my country one day that would be a dream come true.”
