2026 Mitre National Futsal Championships Day 1 Wrap

The 2026 Mitre National Futsal Championships kicked off at the Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre today as over 100 teams from across the country gathered for the opening day of competition.

Welcoming players, coaches, match officials and families from every state for five days of on-court action, the biggest event on the national futsal calendar is being hosted by Football Queensland in partnership with Experience Gold Coast.

The Welcome Ceremony was also held, with special guests in attendance including the Honourable Steve Minnikin, Minister for Customer Services and Open Data and Minister for Small and Family Business, Councillor Bob La Castra, Chairperson for the City of Gold Coast's Economy, Tourism, and Events Committee, and Football Queensland President Paula Robinson.

Capital Football finished day one with the highest win percentage (80%), with Football Queensland teams also putting on a strong performance as they won 17 of 27 matches.

Football Queensland White and Capital Football started their tournament on a high in Pool A of the Under 12 Boys, both recording two wins from two matches in the opening day of competition.

In Pool B meanwhile, Football Queensland Maroon secured two wins from two matches while Football Tasmania, Football South Australia and Football Victoria each claimed three points.

Football Queensland Maroon and Football West recorded strong wins in Pool A of the Under 13 Boys, while Capital Football defeated Football NSW Metro to claim top spot in Pool B after day one and Football Queensland Silver and Football Victoria were held to a draw.

It was a dominant day for Queensland in Pool A of the Under 13 Girls as Football Queensland Maroon and Football Queensland Silver kicked off their campaign with wins over Football NSW Country and Football NSW Storm respectively.

In Pool B meanwhile, Football NSW Thunder and Northern NSW recorded Round 1 wins, with Football Queensland White and Football Victoria having to settle for a point each in an opening round draw.

Football NSW proved tough opponents in Pool A of the Under 14 Boys as Football NSW Thunder and Football NSW Lightning kept clean sheets in their opening round wins, while Football West and Football Queensland Silver each took home three points in their opening matches of Pool B.

Football Queensland and Capital Football came away winners after day one in Pool A of the Under 15 Boys, before Football NSW Metro and Football West secured the top two spots in Pool B thanks to Round 1 victories.

New South Wales teams led the way in the opening round of the Under 15 Girls for Pool A as Football NSW Thunder and Northern NSW Black secured three points each.

In Pool B meanwhile, Football Victoria Navy ends the day atop the ladder after recording a strong Round 1 win while Football Queensland Maroon and Northern NSW Red were held to a draw in their opening match.

Football NSW got their campaign off to the perfect start in the Under 16 Boys, with Football NSW Lightning and Football NSW Thunder recording Round 1 wins in Pool A and Pool B respectively.

Football Queensland Silver also secured three points in Pool A, while Football West opened their campaign with an opening day win in Pool B.

Football South Australia and Football NSW Thunder set the tone in the Under 17 Girls as they recorded opening round wins, while Football NSW Lightning and Football Tasmania were held to a draw.

Football NSW Thunder were in fine form on opening day as they recorded two wins from two in the Youth Men, with Football Queensland, Football NSW Lightning, Football NSW Storm and Football Victoria each claiming three points from two games, while the opening round of the Youth Women saw Football Queensland Maroon and Football NSW Metro come out on top. 

Football NSW Metro and Football Queensland recorded Round 1 wins in the Open Men, while Football NSW Thunder, Football NSW Lightning and Football Queensland each secured three points on day one in the Open Women.

Finally, Round 1 and Round 2 matches in the AWD competition saw Football NSW Thunder claim two wins in two games, while Football Queensland Maroon won their only match of the day and Football Queensland White secured a victory in Round 2.
